Nominated for a 2018 Canadian Folk Music Award, this is traditional string-band instrumentation, played heavy handed with power and passion. The 9 new songs maintain the frantic energy that Jack Pine and The Fire is known for while sinking deeper into steady new grooves. This is not your grandmother’s folk band.

Jack Pine and The Fire’s 2nd Full length album, Left To Our Own Devices, was written at an island cabin built by Grandpappy Jack in remote Northern Ontario.
The isolation inherent to this wild and unique site inspired, Jack Pine [aka Singer-Songwriter-Producer, Gareth Auden-Hole] to write about loneliness, love, and longing. The contrast to Jack’s homelife in Capital City Ottawa also led him to appreciate a simpler approach to life, while celebrating a natural world that popular society so often neglects. Left To Our Own Devices is about relationships… To ourselves, to each other, and to the earth.
Jack Pine and the Fire is Gareth Auden-Hole [Jack Pine – Mandolin, Guitar, Voice], Martin Newman [Upright Bass], Mike Essoudry [ Drums], Stuart Rutherford [Dobro, Fiddle], Anders Drerup [Guitar, Pedal Steel]. Guest Musicians include Pat McLaughlin [Guitar, Tenor Guitar], Kelly Prescott [Vocals], Al Wood [Harmonica], and Chris MacLean [Vocals].
Left To Our Own Devices was written, produced Gareth Auden-Hole [aka Jack Pine], recorded in his mother’s lakeside log cottage in White Lake, Ontario. It was mixed at Gareth’s weeVOXsound Lab and Mastering to tape by Philip Shaw Bova. Emil Mateja created the original album artwork.
